What I Wish I Knew When I First Started as a Social Media Manager

  1. Pinterest is your best friend, from wallpapers to inspiration you’ll find everything. Use it, spend time on it. The perfect wallpaper won’t just come to you, have patience.

  2. Use one font and color palette for one particular topic. Using multiple fonts and multiple colors not only looks messy but also looks unprofessional. It is also very confusing for the readers; they need to know if you’ve switched to another topic or you’re still on the same one.

  3. Learn how to use templates in a way that no one gets to know you used a template. Being a professional or people who are regular content creators, we know when you’re using a canva template, no matter how many colors you change. Some major elements that you find interesting can be kept but it’s essential to stand out and make your post attractive

  4. Know the hashtags! All big and small hashtags have their own importance, use them! Hashtags are supposed to be in the caption. Instagram has suggested hashtags to be in the caption rather than in the comments. This helps the algorithm to identify keywords and hashtags.

  5. Create your own hashtag; one that no one else uses unless it’s related to your brand. This is for days when you grow in your career and have a hashtag for your own brand. Today you’re using another company’s hashtag, someday it’s gonna be your company’s hashtag that will be used.

  6. Learn the elements of canva and photo editing. A filter can absolutely change your picture’s colors.

  7. Don’t be afraid to try new colors. Use the combination that feels right to you. Remember to use color psychology and its impact.

  8. Your text needs to be clear and visible. If your background is too overwhelming, use the opacity slider in canva and make your font bolder.

  9. Make sure that the social media posts that you post represent the event or topic correctly. See what it communicates and ask your team how they feel about it. This will help you gather some idea of how close you are to your target.

  10. Using brand colors is not always necessary but definitely use colors that complement them. Please, please, please look at your IG feed and create a certain aesthetic; otherwise, it will stick out like a sore thumb.

  11. Use the interactive sticker options! Ask the audience and keep their suggestions in mind. Why? Because they might tell you about your blind spots. They are the ones who will engage with your content so the best people to decide this should be them.

  12. Have fun! Post some fun games for your audience, not everyone wants to see business all the time. This also buys you time to prep your content;) Example: this or that, questions sticker, polls etc.

  13. No one will judge you if you are figuring things out. In fact, reach out and ask for help. Out of 10, there is at least 1 person out there who can help.

  14. Try engaging with similar accounts and be aware of their strategy. Following leaders of the industry keeps you updated on new trends and FYIs.

  15. Just create content that adds value to your audience. Followers come and go, but the engagement rate always stays! Build a community of people who like your content and find it valuable. Losing a follower who never engaged with your content makes no difference.

DON'T MISS THE FUN.
